Lead Engineer — Data Platform

Envato is the world’s leading community for creative assets, and a certified B Corp. Progressed from Data Engineer through Senior Data Engineer to Lead Engineer in under three years.

  • Played a central role in the design and implementation of Envato’s next-generation data platform — a ground-up transformation from a legacy Redshift environment to Snowflake with Apache Iceberg lakehouse architecture. Built the core IaC foundation enabling metadata (contract) driven pipelines. Led vendor evaluation for orchestration and ingestion tooling, and authored all ingestion pathways into the platform — internal ingestion, Airbyte, Snowflake data shares, and streaming/firehose.
  • Delivered a greenfield data platform for Envato’s finance function — Snowflake, Fivetran, AWS, and dbt with strict SOX compliance. Zero to production in 6 weeks.
  • Led the organisation-wide adoption of dbt, establishing transformation standards and enabling self-service analytics serving a data and analytics function of ~30 people.
  • Built and maintained ELT pipelines integrating 50+ disparate first-party and third-party sources — eventing data, APIs, data products — delivering reliable, analytics-ready datasets that power business-critical decisions.
  • Implemented data quality and reliability frameworks across the platform, improving trust and adoption of data products.
  • Led TrendSpark, a hackweek project that analysed trending social media data from disparate sources, isolated current trends, and matched them to catalog assets to serve as data products in the customer app. Built the AI layer using Snowflake Cortex. Won hackweek.

Data MC is a world leader in the delivery of highly complex data migrations, specialising in end-to-end ERP, CRM, and business transformation projects for enterprise clients globally. Progressed from Data Consultant (contract) through Senior Data Consultant to Technical Project Lead.

  • Led complex, multi-workstream data migration projects for enterprise clients — owning resourcing, scheduling, risk management, trial runs, and go-live deployments across multiple continents and time zones.
  • Served as the primary technical point of contact for clients, translating business requirements into migration strategies and managing stakeholder expectations throughout delivery.
  • Authored complex T-SQL ETL scripts to extract, transform, and load data between legacy and target systems as part of large-scale ERP and CRM transformations (Microsoft / SQL Server stack).
  • Designed and built an industry-first reference data mapping component for Data MC’s migration tooling — enabling clients to map not just business data but reference data between systems (e.g. configuration fields, dropdown values) for seamless transitions. Automated 1:1 value mapping across hundreds of configuration fields, significantly reducing manual effort and error rates.
  • Championed and delivered further enhancements to internal tooling that automated key development workflows, reducing manual migration consultant effort by an estimated 50% and accelerating project delivery.
  • Built and ran the internal training program — responsible for onboarding technical staff, upskilling consultants, and managing the internship pipeline.
  • Developed a repeatable delivery methodology for migration engagements, improving consistency and quality across concurrent client projects.

Development Team Lead / Solutions Architect

VAS-X is an international software company delivering CRM, Billing, and Provisioning solutions to Telecommunications Operators across Africa and Asia-Pacific. Progressed from Software Developer through Junior Solutions Architect to Development Team Lead.

  • Led a team of 7 developers delivering bespoke client solutions and product enhancements for VAS-X’s postpaid telco product offerings.
  • Performed business analysis and solution design on VAS-X’s flagship OSS/BSS platform, working closely with the CTO to shape the product roadmap.
